Position Summary:
The Department of Family and Community Medicine, Research Division, is in need of a new Program Manager II position for a growth oriented individual with skills and initiative to manage research projects including strategic implementation of program goals, objectives, and activities within specified time frames; oversee daily operations of the research projects; supervise, train and monitor staff on research projects.
The successful candidate will serve as part of the administrative core for the department and participates in departmental research planning and oversight; reports to department leadership including Vice Chair for Research on progress of research projects, and other duties as needed. Additional training is available for the successful candidate to develop skills in grant submissions, progress report submission, and regulatory affairs and reporting, if needed. There may be opportunities to contribute scientifically and participate in scholarly activities.
Responsible for administratively managing a large or complex University program or multiple programs. Provides input in the development of program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Typically supervises small staffs and are responsible for long range planning. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, grant and report writing. May handle regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions and identify research funding. May handle event planning and oversight of construction projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Project management to handle administrative and assist with scientific aspects of complex research projects including regulatory follow up such as coordinating with OSP and other units providing services, scheduling of research related activities, and developing and managing budgets
- Activities to facilitate research and scholarship working with medical students, residents, clinical faculty and fellows
- Assisting in developing and managing population health and health equity initiatives such as health coaching
- Serve as a liaison and engage with community partners/organizations/practices to promote research and scholarship engagement, and serve as a liaison
- Assist with study recruitment, data collection and technical writing including grant and manuscript writing
- Engage with research faculty on a regular basis and provide input in the development of program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters
- May supervise staff and work with Vice Chair of Research for long range planning
- Networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, grant and report writing
- May handle regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions and identify research funding
- Ensure all components of research study's intervention occur according to protocol and at appropriate phases of the project; including participant recruitment, qualitative and quantitative data collection, and evaluation activities
- Serve as study liaison for community organizations/agencies and other organizations across the state as well as the liaison for research partners and sub-contractor
- Maintain and establish relationships with community partners
- Conduct ongoing and continuous quality assurance assessments to ensure data collection/treatment fidelity
- Provide additional training to staff, when needed, to ensure data collection activities are of the highest quality
- Perform various research related administrative duties such as writing progress reports; tracking expenses; ensuring project adheres to HIPAA, IRB and UAB requirements; contributing to scientific presentations; evaluating staff performance
- Work with department finance team on project budgets and financial planning
- May handle event planning
Salary Range: $51,270 - $83,300
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
