Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $48,600 - Midpoint: $60,800 (Salaried E7)
Department/Organization: 217105 - HES Student Services
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; some evenings required.
Job Summary: The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary: Conducts group orientation for incoming first-year and transfer students during Bama Bound, assist with academic advising, and student engagement activities. Meets with prospective students and families through the college's recruitment efforts. Serves as the college's liaison for the UA Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Develops and maintains positive and professional relationships with other CHES personnel, faculty, and advisors. Communicate clearly and effectively on recruitment initiatives, events, and in meeting current and prospective students' academic needs.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Must be available for occasional out of state travel.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work effectively with and understand the interests of students, faculty, and staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a major within the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Knowledge of Banner, Courseleaf, and DegreeWorks.
