The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) invites applications for a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Career Education (CE). Located in downtown Juneau at the Technical Education Center (TEC), the CE serves approximately 500 students each semester. The school offers a variety of programs including associate degrees, undergraduate certificates, occupational endorsements, and workforce credentials in fields such as Law Enforcement, Applied Fisheries, Health Sciences, Construction Technology, Power Technology, Welding, Mining, and Maritime. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of career and technical education in Southeast Alaska, making a meaningful impact on students and the community.

As the lead academic officer, the Dean of CE supervises faculty and staff, oversees day-to-day operations on the Juneau campus, and reports directly to the UAS Provost. The Dean plays a pivotal role in the university’s regional leadership team, collaborating with deans and campus directors in Ketchikan and Sitka to implement academic and workforce development programs that meet accreditation standards and align with UAS’s regional mission.

Key responsibilities involve managing the TEC budget, including grant funding, and ensuring accountability in resource management. The Dean will develop and sustain active partnerships with industry, government, and community organizations to support and enhance the mission of CE and UAS. Additionally, the Dean works closely with other University of Alaska community campuses and Career Education schools within the system to foster collaboration and alignment across programs.

The Dean provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to the school. Bring your demonstrated experience leading workforce development programs and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of academic leadership including curriculum development, accreditation processes, and faculty management. They will possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Strong candidates will have experience with enrollment and retention strategies in addition to researching, writing, implementing, and managing grants.

The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is located in the traditional territory of the Lingít, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples, a majestic array of islands, channels, fjords, coastal mountains, icefields, and glaciers. On our three campuses, students have opportunities for field study, research, creative production, and internships in the Tongass National Forest, in marine and freshwater environments, with local businesses, and within tribal, federal, and state governmental entities. The university is also proud to be the home of Alaska Native Studies, which includes the languages, culture, and art of the Indigenous Peoples of Southeast Alaska.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master’s degree is required; significant relevant experience and/or equivalent industry qualifications may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree. A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in higher education or a related field is also required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Compensation is commensurate with the experience required for the position.
