This includes expertise in areas such as firewalls, IDS / IPS, endpoint protection, encryption, cloud security, SIEM / log management, and other operational security tools.The role requires familiarity with programming or scripting languages to automate tasks and streamline workflows, along with a demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and integrating new technologies into daily operations. Strong project management skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and high-level tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.A comprehensive knowledge of audit and compliance concepts, such as risk assessment, controls, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CJIS, CMMC, FERPA, HIPAA, PCI), as well as familiarity with information security frameworks (e.g., NIST800-53, ISO 27000, CIS CSC), is highly desirable. You should also maintain an active understanding of industry practices in threat analytics, incident response, and adaptive security measures.Ideal candidates will have experience with enterprise-level systems and tools in areas such as endpoint protection, email security, network security, cloud computing, and general cybersecurity measures. Exceptional time management, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving are critical for success in this role. Familiarity with programming or scripting to enhance automation is a strong advantage.Minimum Qualifications : Master’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 4 years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Or, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 6 years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience.Two or more relevant IT / cybersecurity certifications (vendor-specific or those from bodies such as ISC(2), ISACA, SANS, etc.) desired at the time of hire, required within the first year of employment.Travel and on-call are required.Position Details : This position is located at the University of Alaska system office in Fairbanks, AK, and flexible on-site / hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This position can also be remote within Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage.
