The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix seeks a motivated and visionary leader to serve as the vice dean for the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) .
The vice dean of UME reports directly to the dean of the College of Medicine Phoenix and serves as a member of the Colleges leadership team. This leadership position will provide vision and strategic oversight in all matters relating to undergraduate medical education (UME), including admissions, student affairs, foundational curriculum, clinical curriculum, assessment and evaluation, and LCME accreditation.
The ideal candidate must be an outstanding leader with a strong academic record and widely recognized for thought leadership and contributions to medical education. Organizational and administrative skills and innovative pedagogic approaches to education will be essential attributes. Strong student, faculty and staff advocacy with team building skills to promote excellence in all missions of the school will be critical. Other responsibilities will include fostering education and instructional development of faculty and staff, oversight of medical education resources and budget, alumni outreach and strengthening relationships within the University, the College, and our affiliate and community partners in the setting of a distributive educational model. The vice dean will work closely with department chairs and UME directors to promote an exceptional undergraduate medical education experience and foster a pipeline to University of Arizona sponsored GME programs.
The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and / or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of full professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the educational and student service programs within the College of Medicine Phoenix.
- Lead the Continuous Quality Improvement team to ensure LCME compliance and accreditation.
- Represent the College of Medicine Phoenix at the AAMC national meetings, serve on national committees and engage in collaborative research.
- Ensure successful implementation and outcomes of our innovative undergraduate medical curriculum, consistent with the educational goals of the College.
- Oversee further development and distinction in the Student Research program with expansion of the MD / PhD program.
- Strengthen partnerships with affiliate institutions and community partners to benefit the educational mission.
- Strengthen existing relationships with universities, foundations and other organizations to ensure the success of the College of Medicine Phoenix.
- Establish priorities for clinical and academic program development and facilitate the recruitment of key academic leaders necessary to implement educational priorities.
- Recruit and retain an institutional team who will successfully execute the educational goals of the strategic plan.
- Champion undergraduate student pathway programs with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Provide effective unit oversight of the financial and operational performance of the UME Office.
- Actively promote career development of UME faculty and leaders at the College.
- Identify opportunities for enhanced performance in areas of research, education and faculty development.
- Additional duties as assigned.
