Summary of Job Duties :

The Department of Sociology and Criminology in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology with a joint appointment in Latin American / Latino Studies, beginning in August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive start-up package.

At minimum, the person hired must (1) hold a Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or a related social science discipline, (2) have an active research agenda focused on Latina / o / x populations, and (3) demonstrate the ability to teach courses in Sociology and / or Criminology, as well as Latin American / Latino Studies. We prefer candidates who can contribute to one or more of the department's research strengths in community, criminology, inequality / stratification, or health. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience or interest in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and cross-campus collaborations. A commitment to and / or experience with mentoring graduate students in independent research and fostering their academic and professional development is also highly valued.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department

The Department is a dynamic, productive, collegial, and student success-oriented unit in Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Criminology, and an M.A. in Sociology, and affiliation with three research units : the Center for Social Research, Community and Family Institute, and the Terrorism Research Center. The Department participates in African and African American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American & Latino Studies, and other interdisciplinary area studies programs. Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications :

A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or closely related field from an accredited institution conferred by the time of appointment

An active research agenda focused on Latina / o / x populations

An ability to teach courses in Sociology and / or Criminology and Latin American / Latino Studies

Preferred Qualifications :

Evidence of strengths in one or more of the departmental research areas of community, criminology, inequality / stratification, or health

Demonstration of, and / or experience in, interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and / or cross-campus collaborations

Demonstration of, and / or experience with, mentoring graduate students in independent research
