Summary of Job Duties :

The Mail & Shipping Assistant works under the supervision of the Mail & Shipping Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in the operations of a centralized mailing & shipping service center, logging and distribution of all express packages as they are received. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

Qualifications :

• Operates postage meter and shipping scale, weigh letters and parcels for postage as well as packages for UPS & FEDEX, and assures the lowest possible rate of shipping / mailing is used.
• Transports mail and Express packages requiring special handling with a quick and punctual turnaround.
• Sorts incoming mail and deliveries and place them in the proper boxes for deliveries.
• Prepares registered, certified, express mail, and at times UPS & FedEx for proper handling.
• Maintains files and records, matches orders to invoices / packing slips, files, sorts, or posts mail, and boxes as needed.
• Picks-up and delivers mail and shipments campus wide as well as to United States Post Office or express services box.
• Contacts shipper or ordering party for additional information, if needed
• Knowledge of mail / shipping rules and regulations.
• Greets customers and provides assistance or directs them to appropriate party, program or agency.
• Operate a forklift to load, unload, and transport packages / shipments.
• Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50lbs or more as needed.
• Utilize the package tracking system QTRAK.
• Performs related responsibilities as required or other duties as assigned.
