Summary of Job Duties:

The Associate Director of Graduate Student Support provides graduate student support for students’ orientation, career development, retention, and degree completion at the University of Arkansas. Activities include developing programming and resources that support graduate students’ personal, professional, and academic needs. This position may also perform outreach activities within the campus community and with external partners that help support the graduate student population.

This position will report to and be supervised the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School.

This position may evolve to meet the changing needs of students and to meet the mission of the Graduate School and International Education.

The ability to work evenings and weekends is sometimes necessary.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial working relationships with others. This position may evolve to meet the changing needs of students and to meet the mission of the Graduate School and International Education.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Applicable Equivalencies May Be Considered On The Above Qualifications.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally communicate
  • Proven track record showing a passion for supporting and advocating for graduate students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral, specialist, or terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Experience with event planning and management
  • Experience in building networks and forging partnerships
  • Experience in student support program development and implementation
  • Experience with program evaluation
  • Understanding of current trends in graduate education related to the career and academic development of graduate students
  • Experience with managing budgets, including external funds

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the graduate student life-cycle and the ability to identify needs for graduate students during their academic career
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Skills in the use of social media for professional purposes
  • Skill and proficiency in using Microsoft Office suites
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, multi-task, and commit to teamwork
