Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's)
- 2 years clinical laboratory experience
- CHT (ABHI) certification within 1 year of eligibility. If eligible at time of hire then within 1 year of hire date.
- Special knowledge, abilities and skills: Must be able to identify and report abnormal test results as well as communicate and interact with reviewing Pathologists and submitting clinicians. Must be able to work independently, multi-task, and make subjective decisions. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or clinical laboratory science
- CHT (ABHI) certification
Additional Information:
- Serves as a resource to assist other technologists in the Laboratory.
- Maintains all aspects of quality control and quality assurance, assesses for acceptability, and takes corrective action as required.
- Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director. Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results.
- Assists Medical Director and supervisor with analyzing and implementing new tests. Performs additional studies as required for quality assurance initiatives, research support or verification/validation of new equipment or methods.
- They are expected to keep all instrumentation in good working order and identify and notify the supervisor or lead tech of instrument malfunctions. The MLS II fulfills all the responsibilities and tasks of a MLS I as well as performing quality assurance metric studies, and training/competency assessments.
- Completes validation and verification of new instrumentation and testing. Ensures the accuracy of instrument calibration and that preventative maintenance is performed.
- Performs other duties as needed.
