Duties and Responsibilities: The prospective candidate will be involved in the management of the UAPB Discovery Farm Educational center which includes managing animals and water quality conservation demonstrations. The candidate will assist animal science faculty and the UAPB Discovery Farm Educational center outreach director in outreach, education, and research. The candidate will also oversee the cleanliness, well maintained, and/or working animal and poultry facilities including cattle handling facility, goat barn, farrowing house, pig grow-out and finishing units, and poultry facility. This individual will also assist and facilitate student outreach activities during laboratory sessions and on and off campus farm demonstrations.
Other detailed job responsibilities do include:
*Clearing, mowing, etc.
*Setting up and maintaining water quality stations and farm demonstrations
*Frequent sampling and water quality data collection
*Analyze and record sample collections
*Record Keeping
*Conducting/maintaining/recording data protocols on the farm
*Mentor/Supervise student extra-help on farm
*Conducting Tours on the Farm
*Facility maintenance including fences-report problems to Farm Manager
*Inventory-expendable & durable-report needs to Farm Manager
*Check all plumbing & hydrants-report issues immediately to Farm Manager
Responsibilities in accordance with Animal Science faculty
*Removing waste from the Farm.
*Feeding animals and monitoring their health.
*Conducting Tours on the Farm and Assisting Outreach Director.
*Assist in animal science labs
*Pasture management
*Water and feed livestock daily
*Assist grad studentsQualifications:
A minimum of high school diploma with 8 years of experience or B.S. in Environmental Biology or Animal Science or related field with 2 years of experience. Individual must be experience in data collection and processing, data analysis, feed analysis, collection of water and animal samples, experimental design, farm maintenance, and be computer literate is required.
