Departmental Overview

Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, Lifelong Learning & University Extension (SSALLEX) is the extended education division of the University of California, Berkeley, and an essential part of the University's mission to extend the research and scholarship of UC Berkeley to a global community.

SSALLEX is a vibrant and dynamic organization that enables more than 60,000 visiting UC and potential Cal students, parents, faculty, academic units, international business partners, and central campus service providers to engage in campus activities. The department provides more than 2,000 summer courses, fall freshmen programs, study abroad experiences, global internships, and year-round programs or courses, lectures, special events, and interest circles for older adults.

Team Overview

We are the Media team at SSALLEX, passionate about creating inclusive and impactful digital content that resonates with diverse audiences. Our combined services encompass comprehensive support across marketing, academic, and instructional areas. We manage webinars, live events, promotional content, course media, and social media outreach. Our team provides office hours and live-online training, alongside vendor and media asset management, ensuring seamless delivery of both academic and marketing initiatives. Through platform and AI integration, we optimize content creation while maintaining full accessibility support to ensure inclusivity in all our offerings.

Responsibilities

Produces design and layout for a variety of web applications, as well as information architecture.

Project and Media Operations Functions:

  • Produces academic course media in collaboration with instructional designers and instructors or other subject matter experts. Assist in envisioning and implementation of efficiency enhancing workflows for course media production and publication.
  • Ensure proper publish, inventory, storage, and retention of all produced media artifacts. Produces design, plans, resources and layout for a variety of digital media projects and initiatives. Responsible for end-to-end pre-production technical design and setup for video production in studio or on location
  • Produces and shares deliverables in accordance with project vision; including design, final product, and post-project artifacts including any supplemental materials (captions, transcripts, analytics, etc)
  • Meets and consults with clients on a variety of digital communications projects including moderately complex assignments; develops, presents, and recommends web content, site architecture and visual material.

Project Management Functions:

  • Participates in phases across media project workflow including, concept design, pre-production, post-production, distribution and asset management. Works collaboratively with staff from Marketing, instructional designers and instructors or other subject matter experts. Determines resource requirements, prepares and tracks project schedules, budgets
  • Meets and consults with clients on a variety of projects including complex assignments, and develops, presents, and recommends means and methods of vision execution. Maintains relationships with customers to ensure that multimedia projects under his/her responsibility receive proper inputs and outputs as to customer requirements.
  • Ensures alignment with brand messaging and ambassadorship

Maintains currency with emerging and state-of-the-art technical and other web-related equipment, requirements and developments (for example, accessibility issues) and recommends and as directed, takes action to ensure compliance.

Documents procedures, protocols, and technology for internal and external consumption. Required Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Exceptional Customer/Client Focus.
  • Experience with media and event production planning, and design
  • Initiative. decision making. teamwork and leadership orientation.
  • Experience with post-production, developing multimedia content across web, email, social. Strong proficiency with content creation and distribution software, tools, and platforms
  • Experienced in the operation and maintenance of audio and video equipment and technologies
  • Knowledge of media production AV principles - sound, lighting, camera operation and videography
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot local and remote issues during live event delivery
  • Ability to handle high-pressure live delivery and broadcast environments
  • Flexible availability to accommodate varied event schedules
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement proposals and original ideas and correctly identify opportunities and effectively solve problems.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Salary & Benefits

This is a one-year, full-time contract position with the possibility for extension.

This role is eligible for a remote/hybrid schedule within the United States, with some in-person presence required based on business needs. Working hours are in Pacific Standard Time (PST). This position requires that the employee to come to the location as needed, with 72 hours' notice.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,400.00 - $100,000, annually.
