Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian (VETERINARIAN 3)

Independent of supervision, provide specialist level emergency and ICU patient evaluation and stabilization as well as diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Teach and train professional veterinary students, interns, residents and technicians in providing small animal emergency and critical care.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after one week; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Licensed DVM in the state of California.

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or foreign equivalent.

  • Board certification, residency trained or a minimum of 5 years experience in small animal emergency/critical care.

  • Interpersonal communication skills to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

  • Teaching experience of professional veterinary students in emergency medicine.

  • Demonstrated ability and teach others how to manage patients undergoing mechanical ventilation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience of professional veterinary students in emergency medicine.

Department Overview

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work daytime and after hours for all of the clinical duties assigned, including some UC holiday shifts. This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients. May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients. Work in other related areas on an as needed basis. The incumbent will work under the direction of the faculty in the discipline of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care.
