Under the direction of the Perioperative Services Business Manager, the incumbent is responsible for procurement for supplies, implants, non-capital equipment and instruments used in the operating rooms within Perioperative Services. This cost center supports surgical cases and procedures in multiple surgical services. As a Materials Specialist, the incumbent has authority to place requisitions for the division, inclusive of clinical and business departments. The incumbent integrates knowledge of often technologically complex medical supplies, implants, non-capital equipment, and vendor contracting, to ensure a reliable ow of medical supplies available when needed, following University policies and procedures on procurement, inventory and nancial controls. The incumbent resolves pricing and contract issues with Purchasing, and invoicing issues with Accounts Payable. The incumbent assists in maintaining inventory tracking systems and supply waste reporting to ensure accurate inventories and supply waste reduction. The incumbent recommends supply cost reduction opportunities and operational eciencies, assisting in implementing improvement initiatives. The incumbent works with independence and minimal supervision to achieve these goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with high-value hospital / clinical capital equipment procurement programs, including justification, return on investment, and value analysis
  • Experience with supply chain management to encompass supply chain logistics, procurement, inventory management, and contract management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Science, or other health-related field
  • Experience in materials management in the Operating Room or other Hospital clinical department setting. Ability and experience in supporting process improvement projects.
  • Two years of experience in materials management in the Operating Room or other Hospital procedural settin

  • Department Overview

    Perioperative Services has an annual supply expense budget of over $52 million to support over 30,000 surgical cases in numerous surgical services. The Capital Program and Equipment Coordinator is a member of the Perioperative Business Services Team providing advanced, analytical support and procurement of capital, and non-capital equipment, supplies, implants, and instruments used in the operating rooms within Perioperative Services. This position reports to the Perioperative Services Business Manager and will work in tandem with under the guidance of the Capital Program and Equipment Lead. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the review of new and replacement equipment requests and considerations for the Perioperative Committees. Following University policies and procedures on procurement, inventory, and financial controls, the incumbent has the authority to place requisitions for the division. Works with internal and external clients, surgeons, OR leadership, and vendors. The incumbent integrates knowledge of technologically complex medical and surgical supplies, capital equipment, implants, and vendor contracts to ensure a reliable flow of medical supplies is available when needed. The incumbent assists with pricing and contract issues and invoicing issues with Accounts Payable. The incumbent assists in maintaining inventory tracking systems and supply waste reporting to ensure accurate inventories and supply waste reduction. Identifies and recommends supply cost reduction opportunities and operational efficiencies, assisting in implementing improvement initiatives.
