Job Summary

Reporting Directly to the facility director, under general direction, provide specific expertise to the health physics program including program development, safety audits, training, health physics support to the facility programs, and conduct investigation of incidents. Conduct standard and original approaches to identify and interpret regulatory requirement relating to radiation. As Reactor Operator, ensure safe operation and quality control of the facility; safety of personnel and equipment, and strict adherence to the terms and conditions of technical specifications and operational requirements of equipment and facility. Adhere to departmental quality control requirements and independently identify perceived unsafe practices or equipment and bringing them to the attention of designated personnel for resolution. Perform reactor operation activities on a day-to-day basis under the supervision of the Senior Reactor Operator on assigned shift on a rotation basis. This position performs reactor operation activities on a day-to-day basis under the supervision of the Senior Reactor Operator on assigned shift. Rotating the responsibility with other Reactor Operators.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in health physics, physical or biological sciences or similar discipline or equivalent combination of education and extensive work experience in a related field.
- Experience conducting and coordinating health physics audits, investigations and evaluations and achieve necessary corrective action in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, and radiation protection methodologies and requirements.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to radiation protection.
- Skills to oversee operational radiation and environmental health safety for reactor operations, radiography, x-ray, isotope production, irradiation activities and radiation experiments.
- Skills to provide guidance to licensed reactor operators and other personnel involved in reactor related activities.
- Solid oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, students and representatives of regulatory agencies, as well as exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others so as to secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of individuals.
