Job Summary

Serve as a staff veterinarian with a VMTH clinical effort assignment in the Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service of the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Serve as an instructor in the DVM curriculum. Provide clinical teaching for veterinary students and residents through clinics and established laboratory teaching exercises associated with the professional DVM curriculum and participating in self-directed professional development activity / creative activities.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH : Applicants will be screened after one week; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Must possess an University Veterinary License or Full Veterinary License from the state of California.
  • ACZM board certified, residency trained, or a minimum of 5 years experience in companion exotic animal medicine and surgery.
  • D.V.M. or equivalent degree.
  • Experience performing zoological companion animal surgery and endoscopy.
  • Experience to provide oversight of professional DVM students and animal health technicians in all aspects of companion zoological animal medicine and surgery.
  • Current knowledge of veterinary medicine as it applies to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in zoological companion animal medicine.
  • Oral and written skills to effectively interact in a constructive manner with a variety of faculty, residents staff and students, as well as people from the community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience training residents in zoological medicine.
  • Ability to work with various animal species.

    The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

    Provide faculty emergency on-call (as back up for residents) while on duty, including weekends, week-nights and flexible hours. Work in high traffic areas with constant noise from animals and people in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and heavy volume patient-care environment.
