What are the responsibilities and job description for the International Student Advisor (STDT SVC ADVISOR 2) position at University of California - Davis?
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, the International Student Advisor & Pre-College Student Experience Coordinator will ensure a high-quality academic, cultural, and student life experience for visiting international students in the Global Study Program and, during the Summer, ensure a high-quality residential student life experience for participants in the Pre-College and Summer Youth Programs for high school students.
The position will provide holistic advising and academic support to international students that will include course registration, visa regulations and procedures, academic, cultural, and social transitions, and campus policies and resources. The position will also provide academic support to students by identifying and working with international students in academic difficulty, proctoring specialized courses and tests, communicating with relevant faculty and academic departments, and maintaining Canvas pages and course materials.
Responsibilities will also include the coordination of programmatic events, excursions, workshops, and social activities that will enhance the academic and social experience of visiting students - such as pre-arrival advising, orientation, and academic and cultural workshops.
The International Student Advisor will be responsible for compiling student grade reports and GPA data with the goals of tracking GSP academic performance, identifying possible immigration issues, improving advising processes, and communicating with partner universities.
In the role of Pre-College Student Experience Coordinator, each summer the position responsibilities focus on ensuring that student activities are well-planned, executed and supervised. An important part of the summertime role is to integrate the different Pre-College programs into cohesive groups for activities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
* Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
* Experience advising university students on course registration decisions and processes. Experience in counseling and advising students to help them resolve multiple problems (e.g., academic, social and health problems); and making appropriate and sensitive referrals.
* Experience in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of student service programs and events.
* Experience working and communicating with students from different cultural backgrounds who speak different languages and have varying levels of English proficiency.
* Interpersonal communication and listening skills to interact positively and cooperatively with students, faculty, administrators, staff and the general public.
* Project and time management skills; ability to organize work independently with little or no supervision; ability to adapt to changing work priorities and perform multiple interrelated tasks.
* Computer skills using MS Word, Excel, Microsoft office and database management.
* Public relations skills to maintain the highest level of customer service; ability to communicate professionally, verbally, in writing, and before groups.
Preferred Qualifications
* US citizen or permanent resident alien qualified to be certified as Designated School Official (DSO) for SEVIS
* Experience in planning, developing and implementing activities and events for high school students.
* Experience in working with faculty and administrators at a R1 research institution.
* Experience with UC Davis course registration processes, especially with BANNER, OASIS, and CANVAS
* Experience supervising student-staff teams.
* Experience as Designated School Official (DSO) for SEVIS
* Experience studying or living outside of the United States and working in an area where English is spoken as a second language.
* Knowledge of UC Davis Academic Policies and Procedures.
