Position description

The Department of Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at the University of California, Davis, in conjunction with PREP@ UC Davis, invites applications for six (6) Junior Specialists in basic biomedical sciences.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Junior Specialists will be actively involved in studies focusing on questions in cell, molecular, developmental biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, genetics, or genomics. Candidates will be expected to devote 30 hours per week to research.

I. RESEARCH in specialized areas (95%)
Research may involve laboratory work, computation, data analysis, participating in laboratory group and other meetings, and assisting with writing manuscripts for publication. The Junior Specialist will assist the PI or other academic members of the lab in areas such as study design, collecting and interpreting data, and revising plans for future experiments.

II. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%)
University Service includes mentoring undergraduates or others in the lab.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
These positions are funded by the US National Institutes of Health, which mandates the following basic qualifications:
* Hold a bachelor's degree in a bio-medically relevant science from an accredited US college or university awarded no more than 36 months prior to applying.
* Be citizens or permanent residents of the US.
* Intend to pursue Ph.D. study in the biomedical sciences.
Please note that, per the Junior Specialist's contractual policy, applicants cannot have earned an MS degree.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

In addition, applicants must have at minimum an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data and to archive, label and document graphic and tabular data for publication, proposals, and/or presentations. The candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

    * List of five PREP@UCD faculty with whom you would like to work, followed by a one-line description of how you learned about PREP@UCD.

    * Transcripts (or unofficial copy) from all College or Universities attended. For students currently enrolled in classes, please provide transcripts with grades through the end of Fall 2024. For students who have completed a bachelor's degree, please include a final transcript.
