The Financial Operations Team of the School of Physical Sciences plays a critical role in supporting the daily management and oversight of the School's administrative and instructional budgets. This includes funds from opportunity grants, state allocations, University Extension, various donor contributions, and sales and service revenue. The team is responsible for managing these diverse funding sources and overseeing recharge and reporting activities for federal, state, local, and private sponsors. We analyze usage trends, forecast financial needs, and plan daily operations to ensure both institutional compliance and the success of School programs. Our responsibilities encompass negotiating, administering, and monitoring operational funds while ensuring strict adherence to applicable regulations, terms, and conditions. Additionally, we provide comprehensive financial management and reporting to support the School's objectives and maintain fiscal integrity. This position begins with some on-site days required. After assessing work productivity throughout the first six-months along with satisfactory progress and supervisor approval, the incumbent may request an alternative hybrid/remote schedule that fits within the unit's business needs.

Responsibilities

The School of Physical Sciences is seeking an experienced Finance Analyst to independently manage the analysis, oversight, and auditing of financial and administrative transactions across multiple funding sources for the Physical Sciences Recharge Facilities and other assigned accounts. These funding sources include recharge accounts, sales and service income, state funds, contract and grant funds, as well as foundation and endowment funds. This role requires expertise in advanced financial concepts and the ability to align organizational objectives to conduct in-depth fiscal analyses, develop financial forecasts, and generate comprehensive reports. The Finance Analyst will analyze and interpret financial data for budget reporting, including the preparation of annual recharge facility reports and rate analysis reviews. The successful candidate will exercise sound judgment in independently resolving a wide range of financial and administrative challenges, selecting appropriate methods and techniques to develop effective solutions. Responsibilities also include processing billing and monthly recharges for the Physical Sciences recharge units, serving as the subject matter expert and backup for travel and entertainment processing in the Physical Sciences Dean’s Office, and as the backup fiscal officer for all accounts managed by the School’s Assistant Finance Manager. Additionally, the Finance Analyst will implement and maintain complex reporting and data systems, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500- $96,500 (Annual). Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems
  • Advanced skills in the use of spreadsheets and database software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a team and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and campus administrators.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting financial resources.
  • Skills to maintain confidentiality and to effectively communicate and perform responsibilities with tact, sensitivity and discretion.
  • Proven skill to analyze and interpret data to make recommendations.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience financial/accounting management experience

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge and skill using UCPath and KFS.
  • Advanced knowledge of UCI Foundation policies and procedures and gift fund management.
  • Knowledge of UCI’s permanent staffing funding policies.
  • 3-5 years UC experience
