The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of Psychiatry & Mental Health Services , the SHC Patient Navigator is responsible for supporting, explaining, assisting and coordinating primarily after-visit and some pre-appointment patient services, particularly in complex cases, aligned to the individual case needs as determined by healthcare providers and personnel to support the treatment process for UCI SHC patients . This requires efficient office skills, and outstanding interpersonal effectiveness with appropriate boundaries, As trained by unit personnel it also requires professional documentation within the electronic health record, comprehensive professional knowledge about the UCI SHC, and how to navigate UC SHIP, as well as the UCI campus and surrounding community resources. The patient navigator may reinforce health system education, aid in care coordination in the logistics of treatment plan logistics, adherence, and reduction of modifiable barriers as identified by clinical and professional staff. As part of a psychiatric and general medical multidisciplinary team and the general administrative support staff, the UCI SHC Patient Navigator will maintain strict confidentiality and provide guidance, instruction, and education for timely coordination of quality health care services to meet the individual patient’s specific health care needs in a cost effective manner. The UCI SHC Patient Navigator acts as a collaborative team member with Psychiatric and Mental Health staff, Primary Care and Specialty Staff, Front and Back Office staff, Nursing, other physicians and other building units in coordinating patient needs in the continuum of care. The position may also serve other patients of the Student Health Center in care coordination

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $25.62- $31.24 (Hourly). Required:

- Medical Assistant Certification, Licensed Vocational Nurse Licensure, Psychiatric Technician, or Masters in Social Work / Psychology. (Role will be paid at level of Patient Navigator, not clinical license. Scope is nonclinical) • General knowledge about CPT, ICD 9/10, DSM IV and DSM 5.• Efficient advanced computer skills Use of Electronic Health Record• Working knowledge of UCI SHC, UC SHIP, UCI Campus, UCI Health and surrounding community system of care
- BA/BS with a minimum of one (1) year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Two year experience in medical office, psychiatric practice, accredited or licensed health care organization/facility. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with appropriate professional boundaries
Special Conditions:
- This position’s schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, however, weekend or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours.
- Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring of licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position.
- The employee must comply with OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC recommendations and requirements regarding vaccination and testing of healthcare employees.
