The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University.
The OIT Artificial Intelligence team is a first of its kind, dedicated Generative AI team focused on assisting UC Irvine enhance its research profile, streamline administrative tasks, and support teaching and learning across the campus through Gen AI. We help both administrative & academic departments and programs work through their processes, provide consultation on Gen AI applications and solutions, assist with implementation in some cases, and help develop communities of practice.
You'll join one of the only dedicated generative AI teams in higher education that has been recognized nationally as an innovator and leader in the space.
Your Role on the Team
Under the general supervision of the Director, AI, Cloud & Client Solutions, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer applies professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Analyzes complex cloud infrastructure and automation issues focused on scaling the ZotGPT AI platform. Within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action. Designs, implements, and supports cloud infrastructure and automation that enable access control and account information management to campus cloud practitioners with accounts in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure. Administers and automates processes in the campus AWS organization that centralizes account management and provisioning of public cloud accounts on the UC Irvine campus. This position requires flexibility and the ability and interest to quickly adopt new technologies and learn new skills based on the requirements of any given project.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $85,400- $121,100 (Annual).
Required :
- 3-5 years of experience with cloud services, infrastructure-as-code automation tools, CI / CD pipelines and familiarity and experience with scripting and the software development lifecycle.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Broad knowledge of various areas of IT.
- Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
- Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
- Works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
- Experience maintaining infrastructure and automating infrastructure deployments, updates and configurations.
- Experience with version control systems (Git, Subversion, etc.) and experience using one or more common scripting languages.
- Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Cloudformation, Ansible, Chef, Pulumi or similar).
- Experience analyzing and strategizing about the security of operating systems, applications, and infrastructure.
- Experience managing Amazon Web Services solutions including, EC2, VPC, S3, DocumentDB, Security Groups, NACLs, System Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Lambda and load balancers.
- Experience managing Azure solutions including API Management, Document Intelligence, Search, Speech, OpenAI with Bicep, Powershell, and Azure CLI.
- Working knowledge of distributed computing systems including basic computer networking, server administration, basic application security and cryptography; knowledge of software development workows using these systems (Git, Subversion, etc.)
