The UCI School of Humanities is home to 22 majors and 37 minors that span global cultural and historical studies; languages, literature and media; human dimensions of science and technology; and philosophy and critical theory. Our graduate programs in literary criticism & theory, English, and history are among the top-ranked public programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The Dean's Office is comprised of collaborative and engaged professionals in Finance, HR, Advancement, Communications, and Facilities, Computing supporting the entire School. The School employs over 180 senate faculty members, 140 non-senate faculty, and 80 staff. Over 2000 undergraduate and graduate students are pursuing degrees in Humanities fields. The School is comprised of 13 academic departments and several research centers.

Your Role on the Team

The Development Coordinator position is an entry-level / early career fundraising role where training and mentoring will be provided. The successful candidate will be a motivated, well-organized individual who takes initiative, has excellent communication skills, and partners with development officers, faculty, and donors in priority areas of the School of Humanities, in order to develop philanthropic support for the School.

Under the supervision of the School's Chief Development Officer, the Development Coordinator provides project management, administrative and event support for the School's Development team. The scope of responsibilities includes : coordinating proposals, preparation for donor visits, stewardship, communications for potential donors, assisting with events and administrative tasks such as managing the Executive Director's calendar, processing gifts, and other administrative tasks related to support of the development process. The Development Coordinator has an opportunity to learn front-line fundraising, and performs complex duties that involve confidential and sensitive information of a broad scope related to donor relations and fundraising.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.07- $48.28 (Hourly).

Required :

  • Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and with external constituencies.

  • Ability to make decisions without close supervision, and must be accurate, efficient and capable of handling detailed work assignments.
  • Use initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to take direction from multiple sources while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to learn financial processing system and remain up-to-date on all policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to monitor expenditures and perform budgetary projections, requests, and reports.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Skill to develop reports, proposals and external relations materials.
  • Proven excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work with frequent interruptions under constantly changing priorities.
  • Proven level of outstanding professionalism in providing executive assistance to supervisor including : scheduling meetings, coordinating all travel and lodging arrangements, liaison to faculty and staff, prioritizing incoming mail, screening telephone calls and general office management
  • Strong ability to write clear, concise reports, correspondence and public relations materials with minimal direction. Strong ability to review, rewrite and edit all correspondence, from letters to emails, prior to dissemination.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of records management including the proven ability to develop and maintain a system to track and update a variety of information including and an accurate detailed calendar. Demonstrated ability to operate office equipment proficiently.
  • Interest in learning and growing in a fundraising environment.

Preferred :

  • Experience in independently planning all aspects of special events including developing and managing a budget.
  • Knowledge of UCI policies and accounting forms such as invoices, travel vouchers, purchase orders, and check requests.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience - 1-2 years of experience with office administrative management, preferably in a development setting
  • Special Conditions :

  • Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends if needed.
