The UCI Samueli School of Engineering's Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree goes beyond technical training and prepares its graduates for employment in industry. It equips students to maximize career opportunities as technical leaders. In addition to advanced specialized technical training, the UCI M.Eng program focuses on engineering leadership and entrepreneurship, applicable hands-on learning, and team-oriented capstone projects. The program prepares students to become leaders, whether technical managers in large and small companies or entrepreneurs starting their own enterprises.
Your Role on the Team
Reporting to the Masters of Engineering (M.Eng) Program Director, the M.Eng Graduate Advisor is responsible for providing a number of student services supporting the M.Eng Program and its students. The position advises prospective students about academic preparation, appropriateness of program relative to student goals, and program, school and university policies. Implements outreach initiatives with targeted institutions and organizations. Provides support to the program with faculty / instructor related request work, student financial aid options, organization policy and procedure information. Coordinates student orientations, onboarding, and general campus resource guidance. Maintenance and updates Grad Database, website, and social media; creation; creation, maintenance, and distribution of program marketing material and / or communications. Develops, coordinates, and implements student events and supports the unit with a number of other duties. Provides advice and assistance to students on degree progress and major requirements as well as an alternative academic options and scheduling maters.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $58,600- $69,150 (Hourly).
Required :
- Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
- Ability to stay current with admissions guidelines and process, and translate this to the complexities of various scenarios.
- Working knowledge of admissions, recruiting and counseling process in a University environment.
- Ability to use initiative and discretion in dealing with students and prospective students during recruitment.
- Experience in analyzing written materials such as academic records and personal essays to determine patterns, tendencies and relationships.
- Skill in working with a personal computer; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
- Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
- Strong skills in project and event management.
- Knowledge of University processes and procedures. Understanding of University rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques in University environment.
- Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills. Ability to make group presentations to convey information on a variety of topics.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively and diplomatically with applicants and various stakeholders.
- Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of complex U.S. visa and immigration procedures, compliance issues, and employment eligibility / authorization for international students and scholars.
- Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with limited direction.
