The Music Technology Manager will work under the CTSA Director of Technology Services and will work closely with the CTSA Production team. The Production team also includes an Assistant Production Manager for Music whose primary responsibility is supporting Music Department concerts. In the Music Department, the Gassmann Studios Director is a faculty member who oversees those specialized studios, and who typically supervises one or more Graduate Student Researchers or Teaching Assistants with advanced technology skills who also help support the studios. The Music Technology Manager will coordinate with faculty and graduate students in the Music Department's PhD program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology to support specialized research and creative activity in computer music. They will also provide more general music technology support for all faculty and students in the Music Department, and will maintain the Arts Media Center as a resource for students and faculty in all four CTSA departments (Music, Dance, Drama and Art).

Responsibilities:
Working under the general supervision of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) Director of Technology Services, the Music Technology Manager will support teaching and research in CTSA in three interrelated ways: 1) providing music technology support to Music Department faculty and students; 2) coordinating with the Gassmann Studios Director to help maintain specialized audio technology labs and equipment inventory; and 3) managing the Arts Media Center (AMC), a CTSA space that provides equipment checkout, a small music-focused computer lab, and course reserve materials. Key job responsibilities include: maintaining and improving existing music technology labs and equipment, including overseeing software and hardware upgrades and advising on purchases for the Gassmann Studios and the AMC computer lab; maintaining the Gassmann and AMC checkout equipment inventories including overseeing checkouts to faculty and students and updating records in the Asset Tiger inventory software system; managing the budget, student worker staffing, security and operating procedures for the AMC, and coordinating AMC course reserves and acquisitions with UCI Libraries; providing general technological support for Music Department faculty and graduate student research and creative activity, and for undergraduate and graduate classes; providing technical direction for Music Department lectures and concerts that require specialized music technology applications; coordinating with Music Department staff and the Gassmann Studios Director to facilitate the purchasing of music technology hardware, software and supplies; designing and installing new music technology facilities and resources when needed; and providing grant-writing and administration support for computer music research and creative activity.

The budgeted range for this position is: $31.94/hour - $38.31/hour.

Required:
  • Mastery level knowledge in sound and digital audio and video technologies.
  • Experience purchasing, installing, and maintaining audio and computer music equipment and software; broad knowledge of music software including but not limited to, Max, Pro Tools, Live, Reason, Logic, Sibelius, Audacity, Jack, QLab, Pd, SuperCollider, ChucK, etc.
  • Thorough verbal and interpersonal communication skills to communicate complex instructions and information to disparate constituencies.
  • Thorough problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.
  • Thorough organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, setting priorities, and developing policies and procedures, particularly in areas in which there are no existing models or precedents.
  • Bachelor of Music or Music Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years Sound equipment or music technology.

Preferred:
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java and Objective C.
