PD Nursing Assistant - Staffing and Patient Placement - PD Day

The Nursing Assistant aids professional and technical nursing personnel in the Discharge Hospitality Lounge primarily by accomplishing a variety of duties and procedures which are directly related to patients that are being discharged from the hospital. Primary duties include taking and recording vital signs, assisting patients with hygiene and elimination, maintaining a clean and safe patient care environment. Will assist with stocking unit supplies, operating hospital equipment as directed, performing routine clerical tasks, and assisting with other related duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

• PNT_CARE Receives and accurately inventories patient belongings and sends to Patient Property when appropriate. Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) Quality Controls per standards as required 10%
• PNT_CARE Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation 20%
• PNT_CARE Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), in consideration of patient age, gender, culture and stated preferences, maintaining patient privacy and respect at all times. Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean & safe environment. 25%
• PNT_CARE Accurately measures and records vital signs. Recognizes critical deviations in the patient's condition, takes appropriate action and accurately documents all activities as required 25%
• CLIN_Actively engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes a proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making 20%

Required Qualifications:

• Understanding of basic medical terminology
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time
• Must be able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English
• Must be Certified Nurses Assist., Licensed Vocational Nurse, or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting

Licenses and Certifications:

• BLS (Required)
