The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position beginning on April 1, 2025.
The fellowship emphasizes research on compound coastal flood risk assessment, including but not limited to inundation modeling, climate change and sea level rise assessment, wave uprush and shoreline change analysis, and statistical assessment of compound coastal hazards (fluvial, pluvial, and ocean water level). The objective of the project is to develop adaptation strategies and design concepts for critical coastal infrastructure systems under future coastal hazard scenarios. The prospective scholar is expected to contribute to public engagement efforts (e.g., incorporating public engagement data into adaptation and design concepts). The position requires strong quantitative research experience, a solid background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, statistics, as well as good written and oral communication skills. The candidate will be responsible for writing reports, research papers, and grant proposals.
This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Earth System Science, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, and expertise in data processing and computer programming.
