The Department of Health, Society, & Behavior is the newest department to be established within the UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health. The Department is home to dedicated faculty who focus on health disparities and health equity; social determinants of health, health behavior, health communication; and multilevel health behavior change interventions. The research, teaching, and practice interests of our faculty aim to identify and act upon the complex pathways linking environmental, social, cultural, and biological factors with health status and behavior.

Your Role on the Team

Under supervision applies professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP methodologies and procedures to resolve routine data / information management problems. Works on problems of limited scope to provide data / information management support. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data / information from which answers can be readily obtained.

Part-time programming support needed for the California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM) model of insurance coverage and enrollment. This position will support the programming team at UCLA and UC Berkeley to complete changes to specific components of the model using Python.

Qualifications needed to perform this job successfully :

Computer science training

Skilled in use of Python programming language

Knowledge of microsimulation and dynamic modeling using utility functions

Required :

  • Understanding of data management operations and database administration, including data modeling, data definition, data conversion and management of content or unstructured information.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems.
  • Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 years

  • Knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated service orientation skills.
