Staff in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (P/EVC) support and manage all programs, initiatives and projects reporting to the P/EVC. The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor is UCI's chief academic and operating officer. Under the direction of the Chancellor, this position assumes primary responsibility for the academic and organizational functioning of the campus and the advancement of the University's missions in research, teaching and service.

The Provost plays a primary role in the development and implementation of academic programs; planning for faculty recruitment and retention; day-to-day campus operations, including budget allocations and capital finances; and the conception, design and implementation of major campus initiatives. In partnership with the Chancellor, the Provost directs and collaborates with the campus vice chancellors and CEO of UCI Health. The Provost independently directs and collaborates with the campus' 6 vice provosts, 15 deans, University Librarian and Chief Innovation Officer. The Provost works closely with Academic Senate leadership, the UC Office of the President, and counterparts at other UC campuses on various matters of importance to the University. The Provost also serves as liaison between the central administration and the broader campus community, frequently meeting with a wide variety of campus units and groups to convey important information and foster dialogue in support of UCI's strategic goals.

Responsibilities:
Under general direction of the Associate Provost and Chief of Staff, the Project Administrator provides the highest level of analysis and strategic consultation with broad impact across the campus. Has oversight of all administrative aspects of academic executive searches and academic administrator reviews. Conducts independent analyses and advises on multiple issues and concerns addressed to the Office of the Provost, including academic personnel issues. Provides executive-level analytical support to special committees, work groups or task forces as requested by senior leadership. Portfolio of assignments is fluid and addresses the current needs of the campus and the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.

Employing in-depth knowledge of University policies and practices, advises senior leadership on all matters concerning academic deans, full-time academic administrators, and other high profile positions including recruitments, appointments, reviews, compensation, and transitions. Manages recruitments and reviews from inception to completion and provides logistical and operational support to facilitate all phases.

Utilizing broad knowledge of the campus, provides strategic analytical support to senior leadership. Drafts complex and detailed documents, including reports, proposals, agreements, and committee summaries.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of functional practices and policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Cultivates internal and external contacts.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $104,900- $175,400 (Annual).

Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of departmental processes, protocols and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of UCI and University of California governance, instructional and research programs.
  • Strong skills in short- and long-range planning, program and project management, facilitation and collaboration.
  • Sound strategic thinking and consulting skills in guiding the department toward workable strategies and solutions.
  • Strong ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
  • Strong ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of staff and members of the community.
  • Knowledge of common computer application programs.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a proven ability to research a broad range of administrative and institutional issues.
  • Sound judgment and discretion; ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and programs with competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • 10-15 years administrative experience in positions of increasing responsibility in higher education.

Preferred:
  • In-depth knowledge of University’s academic personnel program and related policies and procedures.
