Position Description

UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC)

The UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) was established in August 2024 to support UCLA's educational mission to engage a university-wide community of scholars composed of educators and the diverse learners they serve in a collaborative process to discover and advance knowledge and practice across the disciplines both in and beyond the classroom. The TLC is a key driver of innovation and excellence in teaching across UCLA's broad academic landscape, a campus resource for programming in support of equity-minded and evidence-based teaching practices, and a champion of pedagogical research.

The TLC is recruiting an Associate Director of Assessment Design and Curricular Transformation, who reports to the Director of Assessment of Student and Instructor Experience (ASIE), to systemize the use of qualitative data and campus dashboards by instructors and departments to drive curriculum and pedagogical improvements that address equity gaps, enhance student academic outcomes, and foster a greater sense of belonging for students. The Associate Director engages instructors in assessment programs, consults with stakeholders on implementation strategies, and manages TLC's grant-funded projects to expand participation in assessment-driven curricular transformation. Additionally, the Associate Director conducts organizational self-assessments of TLC programs using qualitative insights supported by quantitative data to inform strategic planning. The Associate Director is to represent the TLC on UCLA and UC systemwide committees and initiatives and may facilitate the dissemination of research findings in areas aligned with TLC's mission and UCLA's strategic priorities.

  • Work collaboratively with TLC directors to establish unit-level self-assessment plans, identify metrics and outcomes that align with TLC goals, utilize best mixed-method assessment approaches, analyze findings to identify emerging trends, programmatic strengths, and areas with opportunities for growth and improvement, and prepare and distribute unit-level reports to inform iterative quality improvement to TLC programming.
  • Direct supervision of postdoctoral scholars and / or part-time students.
  • Assist in the development of assessment tools, such as rubrics, survey instruments, interview and focus group protocols, and data management plans.
  • Engage in consultation services, supporting instructor- and department-level adoption of qualitative assessment approaches.
  • Engage instructors and departments in data-informed efforts to transform the curriculum and improve pedagogical practices to drive student success.
