Position description

The School of Nursing and Chicano Studies Research Center at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) seek applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant and Associate Professor of Nursing. Candidates must hold a PhD in nursing or related fields and demonstrate exceptional promise as a principal investigator. We specifically seek scholars with expertise in or experience serving Latinx communities in the United States. We are looking to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and mentoring has a demonstrated focus on Latinx experiences in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment and track record of addressing questions related to Latinx health across the life course and / or ethnic / racial equity in Latinx health and healthcare in the United States. Applicants with expertise in topics such as Latina women's health, Latinx immigrant health, and other Latinx health issues are invited to apply.

UCLA aims to achieve federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution as early as 2025. In preparation for this designation, the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost have sponsored this search to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and / or mentoring has strong ties to Latinx experiences in the United States. This search is conducted in partnership between the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center and School of Nursing. Faculty hired through this search will hold their appointment in the School of Nursing and will be expected to maintain an active affiliation with the Chicano Studies Research Center. Requirements include a track record or demonstrated commitment to mentoring and encouraging the success of U.S.-based Latinx and first-generation scholars.

Successful applicants are expected to develop a nationally recognized program and collaborate across disciplines to develop research initiatives promoting research and leadership for the Latino / a communities. Applicants must have the potential to serve as PI on multidisciplinary research teams. Preferred qualifications include a potential or track record of peer-reviewed publications, potential or track record of extramural grant funding (e.g. NIH) and a research focus on primary care, community partnered and / or participatory research, or adult gerontology with a focus on Latino / a populations.

Candidates must meet the academic and scholarly credentials to qualify for a tenure-track appointment at UCLA at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, earned research doctorate (PhD in nursing or related field). Candidates who are nurses (i.e., current licensure or eligible for current licensure in California as a Registered Nurse) are preferred, or who are conducting applied research in other fields with direct relevance to nursing and healthcare (including but not limited to public health, social work, psychology, etc.). A postdoctoral fellowship is preferred. For candidates who are nurse practitioners (APRN), national certification in adult gerontology primary, adult gerontology acute care or other advanced practice areas of nursing (e.g., PMHNP, WHNP) is preferred. The rank and step will be commensurate with the applicant's background and experience.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and / or step at appointment. See Table 2. The on-scale salary range for this position is $102,500-$139,400. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, bullying and other demeaning behavior, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UCLA conducts targeted employment reference checks for finalists to whom departments or other hiring units would like to extend formal offers of appointment into Academic Senate faculty positions. To implement this process, UCLA requires all applicants for Academic Senate faculty positions to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled "Authorization to Release Information" into RECRUIT as part of their application. If the applicant does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete.
