Position description

The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at UCLA is seeking an instructor

to teach Physiological Science 121 : Disease Mechanisms and Therapies for Spring 2025 in academic year 2024-2025.

Salary range : The posted UC salary scales (https : / / www.ucop.edu / academic-personnel-programs / compensation / index.html) set the minimum pay determined by the experience level at time of hire. See Table 15 : Unit 18 Faculty, Pre-Six Year Appointments, Academic Year. The minimum annual salary for this position is $68,247 (Salary Point 1), effective July 1, 2024.

Duties : Teach a lecture course designed for junior / senior biochemistry and life sciences majors. The course uses disease mechanisms as pedagogical tools to develop higher-order knowledge of basic scientific concepts, integrating concepts from genetics, molecular and cell biology, physiology, and biochemistry to create molecular solutions to inherited neuromuscular disease. Plan and coordinate discussion activities for multiple sections of courses; supervise course teaching assistants; manage the acquisition and maintenance of course materials; supervise student projects; and maintain office hours.

Qualifications : Ph.D. degree in biochemistry or muscle physiology is preferred but not required. An advanced degree in any relevant field will be considered. Experience or training in active learning approaches also preferred. Level of appointment and salary commensurate with qualifications, experience, and duties.
