Dr. Miriam Marlier in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the impacts of California wildfires on human health. The research activities will include developing satellite and atmospheric modeling datasets of wildfire smoke pollution, linking smoke pollution exposure to human health outcomes, and analyzing wildfire smoke in the context of other climate-related exposures.
The postdoctoral researcher will also be involved with research and outreach activities through the Climate and Wildfire Research Initiative (CWRI). Through the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge program at UCLA, CWRI is supporting solutions-oriented research on climate and wildfire challenges in Southern California and beyond. In addition to research activities, the postdoc will be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, participate in grant writing activities, and engage with CWRI events.
The candidate must have completed their PhD in Environmental Health, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Geography, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, programming experience (preferably in R or Python), and prior experience and/or interest working with multidisciplinary teams.
