Position description

The Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center (NCPC) is looking to hire a junior specialist to help with research study findings and assist with day-to-day research operations for the NCPC research. This role will include working on several grant funded research projects on nicotine, tobacco and cannabis involving various UC and CSU research campuses. Duties and responsibilities of the junior specialist will include but are not limited to:

  • Outreach to professors and community stakeholders, setting research project timelines and ensuring that they are followed, serving as a liaison with cross-campus collaborators (UCSF/CSU) and community stakeholders and local Public Health Departments.
  • Assists in the development of research study materials such as research recruitment forms, consent forms, assist in developing in-person and online surveys, while also assisting in participant screening and scheduling for research studies.
  • Assists with developing tracking mechanisms for research participants, support research progress reports development, provide support in developing social media posts, newsletters, conference abstracts, research briefs, and web content that help disseminate NCPC information and research findings.
  • Facilitate research meetings with academic and community partners, staying abreast of conferences, workshops, guiding issues, new policies, and approaches to conducting and promoting research.
  • Lead student intern research assistants and ensure all their work follows correct procedures/guidelines and all deadlines are met.
  • Attend regular meetings with Dr. Durazo, Alexander Mellor, and the research teams collaborating on various grant funded research projects to update them on the current status of research, and attend trainings while adhering to local and state laws, procedures, and policies, ensuring human subject information is kept confidential.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications

* A Bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, political science, public policy, nursing or related field
* Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* Experience with Social Media and management of Social Media platforms
* Experience in statistical analyses
* Experience in scheduling and organizing research teams and meetings
* Ability to work independently/remotely as well as with others team members
* Experience running labs for associated research
* Be comfortable with Microsoft word and excel
* Fluency in written and spoken Spanish Required

Preferred qualifications

* At least 1 year of social media management and research experience in a psychological lab
* Knowledge and understanding of health and/or tabacco disparities and policies in California
* Experience working within the UC system and communicating with community groups and public health departments
