Lecturer in Merritt Writing Program: Summer 2025

University of California Merced
Merced, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/7/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/2/2025

As one of the larger academic units on the UC Merced campus, the Merritt Writing Program (MWP) has a large range of faculty expertise, including creative writing, professional and technical writing, literacy studies, multimodal composition, rhetorical theory, writing pedagogy and assessment, and writing program administration. We offer first-year writing courses in which students explore the art of critical thinking, craft their written expression, and address various issues and audiences. Our students learn to use language actively, inventively, and responsibly by exchanging their work at all stages of their writing process while building cumulative portfolios. Our approach to writing offers students the opportunity to reflect broadly on their college education and consider a range of pre-professional and academic opportunities.

The Merritt Writing Program is seeking experienced teachers of composition to staff summer sections of first-year writing. These appointments are part-time and non-reoccurring.

For current appointees, normal compensation will be based on the annual salary of the Unit 18 faculty NSF in effect as of June 30 of the calendar year in which summer session begins. Salary is prorated in accordance with instructional workload calculation.

Applications must be submitted via this website.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the Agreement for the Lecturers Unit between the University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and any appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
