About The Job
The Outdoor Adventure Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, management, and oversight of outdoor adventure programs. This role includes planning and leading outdoor activities, ensuring participant safety, and promoting environmental stewardship. The coordinator will work closely with students, staff, and community partners to provide enriching outdoor experiences that foster personal growth, teamwork, and a love for nature.

The coordinator will work closely with students, staff, and community partners to provide enriching outdoor experiences that foster personal growth, teamwork, and a love for nature.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Management
- Plan, organize, and oversee a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, and water sports. Develop and implement educational workshops on outdoor survival skills, environmental awareness, and nature conservation. Coordinate logistics for trips, including transportation, and equipment rentals. Ensure all activities comply with safety regulations and standards. Serve as a trip leader.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise student staff. Work with student staff to oversee and conduct pre-trip briefings and provide clear safety instructions. Provide ongoing training to student staff and staff within the department.
- Oversee equipment inventory for Outdoor Experience Program (OEP). Manage equipment rental program.
- Ensure all equipment is safe and in good repair. Make recommendations on new equipment purchases.
- Conduct risk assessments for proposed programs and activities. Monitor and evaluate weather conditions for all outdoor activities to ensure participant and staff safety. Maintain and inspect equipment for safety and functionality.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and record-keeping. Collaborate with other departments and external partners to enhance program offerings. Attend regular meetings and participate in ongoing training and professional development.
EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sport Management or related field from an accredited institution.
- Advanced degree from an accredited institution. (Preferred)
- Minimum of two years of experience in outdoor adventure programming or a related field.
- Previous experience with college/university outdoor programs or commercial guiding. (Preferred)
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification within 8 months.
- Leave No Trace Master Educator Certification preferred.
- CA Driver’s License required.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to plan and conduct a variety of outdoor activities.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and risk management practices.
- Passion for nature and outdoor adventure.
- Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to the position.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skill.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and train student staff.
