What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Edge Instructor 2025 position at University of California Merced?

The UC Merced Summer Edge Program is a free, online program open to all incoming UC Merced students. This non-credit online program is designed to prepare UC Merced students for college-level chemistry, computer science, math, and writing courses through a combination of asynchronous and live interactions with instructors, peer learning assistants, and university staff.
Specific dates of activity are June 30 – August 8, 2025, and approximately 8 hours of effort per week.
There will be an online planning meeting in June. The day and time of this meeting is TBD in the week of June 23, 2025.
Duties for this BYA appointment include the following activities.
1) Update CatCourses asynchronous online instructional materials for Summer Edge module.
2) Oversee peer learning assistants, including weekly content meetings and at least one session observation.
3) Hold weekly office hours for Summer Edge students.
4) Send regular messages to Summer Edge students about engaging with the course.
QUALIFICATIONS
- An advanced degree in the discipline, and experience teaching in that discipline at the University of California, or
- Current enrollment in a UC Merced graduate program including successful teaching in one of the four disciplines (CHEM, CSE, MATH, or WRI), and advancement to candidacy.
