DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The University of California extends its mission of service, teaching and research to the nation's capital. The UC Washington Center (UCDC) is a multi-campus residential, instructional and research center that provides students and faculty from the University of California with opportunities to study, research, work, and live within Washington's rich cultural, political and international heritage. The program is housed in an 11-story building in a lively neighborhood a short walk from the White House with room for more than 270 students.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Analyst will support data collection, analysis, research, and reporting needs across the University of California Washington Center. The Data Analyst will support strategic planning and decision making through the analysis, presentation, and distribution of institutional data. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice and has an in-depth understanding of data collection and analysis. This position is based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities (Add text here)

  • 25% Build and Maintain Data infrastructure: - Build and maintain the data infrastructure for UCDC so that program and operational data can be accessed, analyzed and distributed as needed. This will involve engaging internal and external stakeholders at UCDC, UCOP, and campuses to identify and prioritize data collection, tracking, and reporting needs. - Establish processes for collecting, maintaining, and cleaning data in several areas, including digital marketing, in-person events, student demographics, internships, development, finance, and facilities.
  • 35% Data Collection and Analysis: - Collect, maintain, and clean data to ensure availability and accuracy. - Establish a process for analyzing and reporting on data. Create reports, templates, and/or dashboards to inform UCDC stakeholders and ensure accountability toward strategic priorities. - Establish a comprehensive database for historical application and enrollment, including detailed student profile information.
  • 40% Communicate with internal and external stakeholders: - Serve as primary point of contact when data or reporting needs emerge (including Regents, APP, IRAP, GUEA, UC Operations BRC and BASC) - Work with all UCDC units to establish processes for data collection. - Work with campus coordinators to understand and track student recruitment - Respond to external requests for data - Create public dashboard with relevant data.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of related data analyst experience
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex information, assess problems, and develop and effective solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools.
  • Ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a broad range of professional and technical staff.
  • Proven ability to serve as a technical resource providing advice and counsel on data collection and analysis issues
  • Experience using data analytics and reporting tools such as PowerBI, SAP business objects, Excel, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and experience integrating such commitments into the workplace.
  • Understanding of the University's missions of teaching, research, and public service and an ability to support those missions through the work of UCDC.
  • Ability to take initiative, comfort with ambiguity, and skills at strategic thinking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in a university or non-profit setting.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in quantitative social science, data science, or computer science.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
