Position Information
Reporting to UCR Facilities Building Mechanical / HVAC Supervisor, the Building Equipment Mechanic performs a variety of journey-level work related to the repair, maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and inspection of commercial building mechanical equipment. The Building Equipment Mechanic supports the maintenance and operation of other campus and central plant equipment including but not limited to : high pressure steam systems, Energy Management Control Systems (EMS), condensate return systems, and scientific equipment such as autoclaves. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to mitigate and / or resolve immediate building concerns or safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude for the team and communicates effectively with colleagues, staff, faculty, and students.
The full salary range for the Building Equipment Mechanic is $42.17 - $47.48 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Minimum Requirements
Ability to work from ladders or stages at varying heights of up to 25 feet above grade. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to perform repetitive lifting, loading, carrying, moving, and manipulating various building materials. Ability to follow safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety devices, equipment, and gear to safely perform physical requirements and duties. Ability to withstand unpleasant sights and smells and frequent exposure to extreme temperature conditions (boiler rooms, steam pits, etc.),wear respirator or other required safety gear, work outdoors in extreme and inclement weather conditions and with dangerous and / or hazardous substances. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, calibration, repair, installation, diagnosis, and inspection of industrial systems, pumps, climate control systems, heat exchange systems and high pressure steam systems. Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service. Knowledge and skill working with Energy Management Control Systems (EMS) and other control systems (electronic, digital, analog, mechanical and pneumatic). Ability to estimate time, methods, and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams. Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected. Skill in proper application of precision measuring and calibration equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Skill and ability to install, maintain, and repair various industrial / chemical fume hoods. Knowledge of building system coils, shafting and pulleys, valves and piping systems. Ability to prioritize work orders, routine work, and emergency requests. Ability to choose the proper materials or equipment to accomplish work in the most expeditious and safe manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of UC / UCR policies and systems. Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2, etc.). Ability to work with diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor populations and provide exemplary customer service.
