Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical and operational support to both the Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic and the Anesthesia Pain Team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Time will be divided based on departmental needs. General responsibilities for both areas include, obtaining health history, performing physical assessments, identifying problems and formulating a plan that includes further diagnostic evaluation, risk stratification and counseling. The NP facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $91.17 - $124.10 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic is an ambulatory clinic responsible for the preoperative assessment and optimization of patients undergoing surgery. The clinic offers tele-medicine and in-person consultations.
Responsibilities of the Anesthesia Pain Team include the Acute Pain Service (APS), Interventional Pain Procedures, and the Chronic Pain Clinic.
The Acute Pain Service is an anesthesiologist-led inpatient service that cares for patients with post- operative or acute traumatic pain. Interventional Pain Procedures are an anesthesiologist-led outpatient service that provides interventional pain procedures in an operating room or other setting. These procedures frequently involve the use of fluoroscopy, ultrasound, or radiofrequency ablation.
The Chronic Pain Clinic is an ambulatory clinic that manages patients with chronic musculoskeletal, nerve, and cancer pain. The clinic offers telemedicine and in-person consultations, recommends pharmacologic pain treatments, physical therapy-based treatments for chronic pain, and evaluates patients for interventional pain procedures.
Required Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner I
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nurse Practitioner II
- Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a perioperative setting
- Fluent in Spanish or Cantonese
- Knowledge of core principles of critical care, cardiology, or internal medicine
- Experience in pain management clinic or inpatient pain consult serivce
- Previous training and experience in critical care, cardiology, or internal medicine
License/Certification
- California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
- Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
- Accepted Certifications for this position: FNP-C, FNP-BC, ANP-C, ANP-BC

- Hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
- Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
- Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Current AHA BLS.
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
