Job Summary

The radiology specialty programs nurse coordinator, in collaboration with the radiology physicians and administrative personnel, will work in an independent role to develop and to maintain patient programs for specialty areas of radiology. This coordinator will screen patients in both the clinic setting and by phone to assess health issues, which include or preclude patients for upcoming and ongoing specialty programs or procedures in the radiology department. The nurse coordinator will be responsible for the initiation and the follow-up of all relevant test results for patients she/he is following, and will work with the radiology physicians and ordering physicians to refer patients to the appropriate areas for ongoing care and services.

The nurse coordinator will develop specific assessment tools, referral networks, participation criteria, and specific data collection tools tailored to the projects on which she/he is currently developing. The nurse coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for patients involved in the specialty programs and procedures, and for the ordering physicians as well as the relevant UCSF radiology physicians.

The nurse coordinator will develop and maintain processes that promote smooth patient flow and positive patient experiences throughout the specialty programs/procedure process in compliance with LEAN standards.

The nurse coordinator will follow the patients involved in the specialty programs through all phases of care relevant to the Department of Radiology, and will maintain precise documentation throughout the process. She/he will also be responsible for maintaining and auditing work queues regarding incoming referrals for the relevant specialty programs.



The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $98,300 - $206,900 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in the specialty program or recent two to three years of experience as a Nurse Coordinator/Navigator nursing experience
  • Extensive knowledge of radiology procedures and related anatomical and physiological considerations for patient safety and procedural efficacy
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Strong general clinical knowledge in a variety of modalities, or significant expertise in a specialty area. Ability to assess patient needs and make appropriate referrals for ancillary support services and programs
  • Advanced skills in assessing patient's grievances and locating appropriate resources to get issues resolved. Skills to intervene and assist with patient's questions or concerns about treatment plan.
  • Excellent customer service skills, working with a high volume and high expectations customer base. Ability to support patients with a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical needs
  • Ability to work in a complex, multi-divisional environment with the skills to establish priorities, set objectives and achieve stated goals. Ability to utilize project management tools. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear and concise communication skills to teach patients about complex, sensitive clinical issues
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software including Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision by radiology administrative nursing personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong patient advocacy skills and history
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to accept full responsibility for a defined and delegated project or program, as well as the ability to effectively prioritize workload in order to manage numerous concurrent tasks
  • Proven ability to work and to interact effectively with physicians and patients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in nursing unit setting
  • Experience in public speaking or in educating medical professionals
  • ICU experience

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
