The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at University of California, San Francisco is seeking a full time investigator at the rank of Associate Professor in the In-Residence series. Qualified applicants should have a PhD and a background and training in computational health sciences, molecular biology, genetics, and outcomes modeling. Applicants should have domain knowledge in the field of breast cancer, quality of life metrics, expertise and interest in the intersection between computational sciences and cancer therapeutics, clinical and genetic markers of drug response and toxicities, and quality of life indicators.

The specific areas of expertise should include big data analytics, visualizations, biomarker data repository development, clinical decision support, bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, machine learning, clinical trials, and related areas. The selected candidate will be able to work well in a multidisciplinary environment. The candidate will be expected to have extensive experience in the integration of state-of-the art machine learning methodology in clinic care workflows and medicine. A background in engineering is desirable.

This position will be expected to be active in the ongoing development and management of the integrated biomarker database repository for a number of our large platform trials, and managing a data scientist/engineer to keep it current. Another role is to identify genetic susceptibility markers for serious adverse events and early predictors of toxicity. This position will be expected to work in collaboration with our trial modeling team to develop trial endpoints that integrate efficacy and toxicity.

This position will require the teaching of computational techniques to postbaccalaureate students, postdoctoral students, and residents, and mentoring of students and fellows in related projects. The ability to work well in teams is essential.

Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $145,500 - $183,500. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
