Associate Specialist - Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory (ITL)
Department of Surgery
University of California, San Francisco

An Associate Specialist position is available in the Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory (ITL, https://itl.ucsf.edu/ at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). This position will be working with Dr. Rajalingam and his team on projects related to Immunogenetic, Histocompatibility, and Transplant Immunology.

The overall goals are to:

  1. Map epitopes of HLA antibodies using single antigen bead reactivities on sera from transplant patients to uncover functional eplets that aid in selecting compatible donors to minimize the risk of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) in transplantation.
  2. Explores the immunogenic potential of mismatched HLA eplets, to enhance donor-recipient compatibility that optimizes transplant outcomes by reducing immune sensitization and rejection.
  3. Develop innovative matching tools and methodologies that promise to enhance transplantation success, optimize patient outcomes, and contribute to UCSF's mission to deliver high-quality, impactful patient care.

Candidates must have a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) in a biological science discipline such as Immunology, molecular biology, genetics, or related fields or at least 5- 10 years of research experience. Candidates must have expertise in Biology/Immunology and basic cellular, experience in CRISPR-Cas gene-editing technology, experience in cloning, recombination technology, expression, and functional studies, experience in antibody functional characterization, immune checkpoint functional assays, ligand binding assay, cell-based binding assay, reporter gene assays, and cell killing experiments. Candidates should have strong statistical and analytical skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. They will be expected to actively participate in writing journal articles and grant proposals.
