Junior Specialist - Baraban Laboratory
The Baraban Laboratory ( https://barabanlab.ucsf.edu/ ) at the University of California, San Francisco has an opening for a full-time Research Specialist. The Baraban Lab has pioneered the use of embryonic cell progenitor transplantation for the treatment of epilepsy ( https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/science-and-technology/2022/01/pig-brain-cells-may-have-cured-a-sea-lions-epilepsy-are-humans-next ). The successful candidate will work closely with senior postdoctoral fellows in the laboratory to further advance this cutting-edge research program.
Area Of Specialization / Responsibilities
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in any of the life sciences (e.g., animal science, biology, microbiology, neuroscience) or related field, by the time of hire. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be able to do in-person work, in-person work required. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with histology/immunohistochemistry protocols and animal handling. A basic understanding of neuroscience is preferred.

- Routine mouse husbandry duties e.g., weaning, culling of litters, genotyping
- Assist in histology and immunohistochemistry experiments e.g., animal perfusion, vibratome sectioning, tissue processing and mounting, image acquisition
- Assist in behavioral and in vivo electrophysiology studies.
- Interacting with postdoctoral fellows, staff, researchers, and other teams to provide high quality, responsive animal care services
- Maintaining accurate records including room logs, health reports, animal census, and other records as required
- Assist in preparation for all regulatory inspections
