Brief Summary of Job Duties:
The Senior Auto Equipment Operator performs a variety of operational duties in shipping, receiving, distribution, and record keeping and performs manual duties in the loading and unloading of material shipped to and from the campus. Delivers freight shipments, and other types of shipments to campus departments. Operates a variety of vehicles and material handling equipment on a daily basis. Assists in the receipt of goods. Uses computerized databases and internet. Fills orders, including large janitorial supply orders and delivers them to Janitorial and Housing closets around campus. Assists the Physical Resource Coordinator with receiving and stocking merchandise, moves furniture and merchandise to maximize warehouse space, helps with physical inventory count at yearend and oversees the warehouse function in the Supervisor's absence. Prepares outgoing shipments by using various shipping methods and vendor services in accordance with UC policies and procedures and processes outgoing shipments using vendor supplied computerized shipping applications and assists with department record keeping and data management tasks. Follows oral and written instructions and performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- 1-3 years Experience in warehouse, shipping and receiving.
- 1-3 years Experience in a delivery or related role
- Minimum one year work experience driving large delivery vehicles/box trucks.
- Must have a valid class C CDL, and pass a background check.
- Work experience demonstrating forklift certification is required.
- Must be able to lift/move 50 lbs safely.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work with a diverse clientele and work group. Able to speak English fluently.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both in a group and individually in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Ability to understand and apply University and Department policies and procedures to specific situations.
- Utilizes modes of office communication such as Google Mail, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar to effectively collaborate with coworkers.
- Actively aware of their environment, and demonstrates safety conscientiousness and attention to detail at all times.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and Google applications. Preferred
- Knowledge of powered hand tools and experience moving supplies and equipment.

- Able to frequently lift / move up to 50 pounds.
- Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies and procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 70% Delivery Driver - Delivers freight shipments, UPS, FedEx, Standard Class parcel mail, and other types of shipments using a 1.5 ton step van to and from all points on and off-campus. Delivers and picks up packages and loads van in route order as assigned by supervisor. Obtains necessary signatures on all accountable mail and deliveries as determined by department policy. Operates a variety of equipment including a 1.5 ton truck w/hydraulic lift, forklift, hand truck, and pallet jack.
- 15% Merchandise Handling - Fills stock orders and prepares for delivery. Screens orders for legitimacy, fills order from stock, packs and labels boxes and sets in place for delivery. Assists customers with questions, processes returns for credit, and helps walk-in customers at the counter. Helps make special deliveries of custodial products to janitorial and Housing closets. Assists the Resource Manager with receiving and stocking merchandise, moves furniture and merchandise to maximize warehouse space. Stocks shelves and keeps the warehouse neat and clean utilizing forklifts, pallet jack, dolly's and other material handling equipment to move and place products. Covers the warehouse in the Supervisor's absence. Helps with the physical count for the yearend physical inventory count, protects assets and assists with special projects.
- 15% Shipping & Receiving - Prepares and processes outgoing department material for shipment using various vendor shipping systems including UPS, ABF truck line and other contracted couriers. Reviews departmental shipping memos for accuracy and completeness, checking for shipping address, department recharge account number, authorized sender name and phone extension. Processes outgoing shipments using vendor shipping equipment, scales and register system. Assists in the receipt of goods by unloading, moving and counting packages, crates, and/or other containers or items; unpacks small furniture, boxes and other equipment; picks items up from FM and Housing departments; and signs vendor receipt of shipment and inspection for obvious damage; and logs in goods received. Records receiving date of purchase order item/shipment into computerized database using Gateway. Follows departmental policies and procedures for handling missed deliveries and damages; reviews items on packing slip to ensure items are present and accounted for. Identifies shipments using Gateway and contacts department or buyer as necessary; marks packages for delivery to correct department. Residential Operations strives to provide the highest quality service to its customers. Staff members represent HDAE in all of their actions, and are expected to present themselves in a professional manner while also providing exceptional customer service.
