JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Silicon Valley Engagement, the Baskin Engineering Silicon Valley Career Engagement Specialist is responsible for activating and advancing a career-engaged ecosystem for the UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley campus by developing and implementing programs, systems, and initiatives designed to teach students the life-long continuous process of personal and career development and foster meaningful connections with industry and alumni. This professional serves as a direct liaison to students, faculty, and staff and collaboratively cultivates relationships with companies, organizations, and alumni in fields aligned with Baskin Engineering's professional graduate programs in Silicon Valley and those related to diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Baskin Engineering Silicon Valley Career Engagement Specialist provides career coaching to help students in Baskin Engineering professional graduate programs discover and prepare for career pathways, articulate their career-ready and transferable skills, and build a community that propels their career aspirations. This role empowers students to use their agency to make educated decisions as they reflect on their talents and explore the ever-changing landscape of careers through innovative and strategic connections.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary : $75,750 - $87,700 / year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

    JOB DUTIES

    30% - On-Campus Engagement

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with staff, faculty and stakeholders in Baskin Engineering's Professional Graduate Programs to develop best practices for career readiness and career exploration for students.
  • Consult and collaborate with Career Services and stakeholders in Baskin Engineering on best practices for developing career readiness and career exploration skills with students.
  • 30% - Industry Engagement

  • Cultivate and coordinate strategic partnerships with employers, alumni, and key organizations in fields aligned with Baskin Engineering's professional graduate programs in Silicon Valley.
  • Initiate, promote, and steward these relationships to expand engagement opportunities, professional networks, mentoring, and recruitment of students. Leverage industry knowledge to provide relevant experiences, training, and guidance to students.
  • 25% - Student Engagement

  • Develop programs and provide coaching designed to help students discover and prepare for career pathways in fields aligned with Baskin Engineering's professional graduate programs in Silicon Valley.
  • Conduct career coaching for students in these programs in engaging, culturally conscious, and effective ways.
  • Connect students to resources, industry, alumni, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • 10% - E-Learning Design and Content Creation

  • Create and update e-learning content (worksheets, videos, Canvas modules, website, etc.), allowing students to access asynchronous career resources online.
  • Develop and regularly share an industry newsletter focused on trends, insights, and opportunities in fields aligned with Baskin Engineering's professional graduate programs in Silicon Valley.
  • 5% - Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation

  • Collect and analyze program participation and engagement data to assure quality and improve student engagement. Prepare reports as requested.
  • Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with career coaching peers and robust industry networks.
  • Represent Baskin Engineering and UCSC Career Success through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
  • Knowledge of higher education programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
  • Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Thorough knowledge of workshop and program design and management.
  • Strong oral communication skills. Strong presentation skills.

  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

  • The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs.
