Position overview
Position title: Monterey Bay Area Mathematics Project Associate Director
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A reasonable estimate for this position is an hourly rate of $29.81 - $39.10 (based on an annual salary range $62,236 - $81,633).

Percent time: Part-time, 53.75 % time.

Anticipated start: As soon as possible after the initial review of applications.

Position duration: Initial appointment is part-time through June 30, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position Description


Director Sumita Jaggar of the Monterey Bay Area Mathematics Project (MBAMP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of MBAMP Associate Director. MBAMP provides professional development for K-12 mathematics teachers across Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties. MBAMP serves Region 5B of the California Subject Matter Projects - a statewide effort. Through events such as summer institutes and a community math teacher circle, MBAMP brings together mathematicians, teachers, and administrators.

MBAMP events focus on building knowledge of mathematics; improving skills in instruction; enhancing/ practicing leadership skills; and assisting in curriculum development.

Summary of Duties:
Under the supervision of Director Jaggar, the associate director will engage in an array of leadership activities to support the mission of providing professional development for K-12 mathematics teachers across Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties. The positions duties include the following.
  • Build collaboration between MBAMP and the Cal Teach program, which recruits and supports prospective math and science teachers.
  • Recruit math teachers for participation in MBAMP.
  • Participate in the monthly steering committee.
  • Prepare for the MBAMP summer institute.
  • Assist with marketing and graphic design.
  • Design and deliver professional development for K-12 teachers, including coordination of workshops, colloquium series, and one-day conferences.

Additionally, the associate director will also work with the UCSC Cal Teach program, which connects current UCSC undergraduate students with in-service K-12 teachers. This will include the following activities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between MBAMP and Cal Teach, meeting routinely with the Cal Teach director to envision and plan collaborative efforts.
  • Attend Cal Teach events designed to recruit current undergraduates into the program.
  • Assist Cal Teach with coordination of joint MBAMP/Cal Teach events

We strongly encourage applications from candidates who have experience with developing and leading professional development for math teachers and who have graphic design and marketing experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)
  • Master's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field, or education.
  • Valid California Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics or a California Clear Multiple Subject Credential with a Supplementary Subject Matter Authorization in mathematics (see California Commission on Teacher Credentialing).
  • At least two years' experience teaching mathematics in a K-12 setting.
