The incumbent provides high quality customer service to patients calling to obtain medical services at UC Irvine Medical Center. Serves as a preceptor for new staff.
Essential Job Functions :

- Obtains demographic information from patients, including accurately verifying medical coverage, determining patient eligibility, and or the need for referrals or authorizations, and enters into appropriate computer system. Effectively counsels patients regarding insurance and eligibility, including payment types and or amounts required for service. Takes necessary steps to protect patient confidentiality. 35%
- Communicates effectively and appropriately with patients, clinic and other medical staff, co-workers and members of leadership in a manner that provides exceptional customer service and supports the ARISE values. 20%
- Appropriately schedules, reschedules, cancels or confirms patient appointments in a timely manner to maximize scheduling for patient volume as needed or requested. Provides accurate information to patients regarding referrals, insurance authorizations and the time and location of their appointment, along with what, if anything, they need to bring to the appointment. 35%
- Accurately and clearly documents patient requests for assistance from a physician and or clinic staff, selecting and sending information to the correct department. Takes messages and routes to appropriate department. 10%

Required Qualifications :
Demonstrated experience using a computer, including data entry and retrieval
Demonstrated experience using office equipment such as a printer, copier, fax, scanner
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
Demonstrated knowledge of insurance programs and / or government programs
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Minimum 6 months of experience working in a call center setting plus 12 months experience working in a healthcare setting or 12months experience working in a call center in a healthcare setting
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated experience working with a patient registration software system
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and / or Vietnamese
Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
