Position Summary
The mission of the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) is to create an accessible and inclusive environment where a student’s educational potential is maximized through the fostering of independence, self-advocacy, and individual holistic development. The Blind and Low-Vision Student Assistant assists our OARS blind and low-vision student population by providing equal access to documents, providing testing accommodations and orientation and mobility when needed. Job Duties and Responsibilities -Providing orientation and mobility across campus to assist with familiarity of physical surroundings
- Converting books and paper documents into electronic formats
- Enlarging paper documents based on font specifications
- Providing reader and scribe accommodation for tests, quizzes and exams
- Assisting students with proofreading papers for visual continuity
- Serve as a note taker when needed Skills Considered Essential for Success -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures.
