What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Connectivity Research Technician position at University of Central Arkansas?
Join a vibrant and engaging research laboratory (https://sites.google.com/a/uca.edu/adams-fish-ecology-lab) to assess and inventory barriers to aquatic organism passage on streams identified as Conservation Opportunity Areas in Arkansas. Position will start in February 2025 and have the potential to extend until October 2025. These watersheds represent some of our more beautiful waterways in Arkansas and include the Illinois, Kings, War Eagle, Strawberry, Eleven Point, Spring, Ouachita, and Caddo watersheds. Teams will travel to sites and conduct barrier assessments using the SARP (Southeastern Aquatic Resource Partnership) protocol.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Research technicians will be responsible for coordinating and executing fieldwork, working directly with state agencies, and completing data analysis. These positions will require time in the field and most weeks will require 2-3 nights in hotels. Coordination with other crew members and supervisors is critical.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive truck
- Must have a valid US Driver’s License at time of application
- Ability to work with the public and with private landowners
- Ability to travel 3-4 days/week throughout the year
- Data management and visualization skills (e.g., Excel)
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work in a variety of field conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Ability to swim
- Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures.
- Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team.
- Ability to make sound judgments.
- Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities.

- BS in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field
- Applicants with some GIS experience preferred
