Position Summary
The HR Generalist I has general knowledge of all Human Resources functions. The core responsibilities of the HR Generalist I are onboarding employees, such as staff, faculty, graduate assistants and student workers. This position maintains employee records, ensuring probationary and annual evaluations have been completed by all staff, providing I-9 and international employee support, and updating employment information for the board of directors and ADHE. During down time, this position is expected to train and be the back-up for other positions in the human resources office, such as payroll, classification and compensation, employment services, and benefits. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency / institution policy. Job Duties and Responsibilities Key Responsibilities :
- Conducts onboarding of new hires, verifies all documentation and paperwork are in compliance with federal laws and ready for payroll, and maintains employee records
- May explain employee handbook, policies, procedures, and / or present benefits package information to new hires
- Coordinates employee evaluations, probationary reviews, and position reviews
- Updates the board list, employee disclosures, and concurrent employment requests
- Provides employee support, completes employment verifications and proof of prior service
- Maintains job changes, employee exits, and department transfers
- Trains with other staff in human resources and serves as a back-up to those positions
- Performs research and statistical analyses and assist in the preparation of reports
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources. Knowledge of state and federal personnel laws, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of organizational management, payroll, and benefits processes. Ability to analyze information, perform critical thinking, and recommend appropriate action. Ability to multi-task, prepare and present oral and written information and reports. Skills Considered Essential for Success -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.

Preferred Education and / or Experience Human Resources experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Experience in PeopleAdmin and Banner.
