What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student - Chemistry Researcher (Grant Funded) position at University of Central Arkansas?
Dr. Marsha Massey in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is hiring an undergraduate researcher to help with a collaborative grant related to alternative energy production using small molecules.
The hourly rate will be $15 per hour. The student researcher can work a maximum of 40 hours per week for up to 8 weeks. Thus the projected total pay for summer is $4,800 (pre tax).
Students are welcome to schedule work hours for anywhere May 21 – Aug 15.
In this position students will receive training from Dr. Massey (the supervisor and research mentor) to do the following tasks:
- finding, interpreting, and using information in primary, peer-reviewed literature
- organic and inorganic synthesis of small molecules using Schlenk line
- analysis of organic/inorganic compounds using spectroscopy (NMR, IR, etc)
- formatting data appropriately for papers and presentations
- organizing data and results in a poster and/or oral presentation
Prior experience in a chemical laboratory would be helpful, however is not required for the position. Applicants interested in gaining this experience for the first time, particularly if they have an interest in expanding on their work beyond this summer would be given strong consideration for this position. Students with prior background in general chemistry concepts (College Chemistry I or beyond) will be preferred.
